Daily Time Limits for Websites in Chrome and Edge

Give a website a daily allowance in minutes. SuperchargeFocus counts foreground time, shows what is left, and blocks the site when the time is used.

Updated

A full block is too much for some sites. You still want ten minutes of news over coffee, or a short look at a feed after lunch. A daily allowance gives that site a budget in minutes instead of an off switch.

SuperchargeFocus counts the minutes, shows what is left, and closes the site for the day when the budget is spent. It works in Chrome and Edge.

Setting an Allowance

Open the panel on any site and set its daily minutes, from 1 to 1440. You can also select several sites in the panel’s site list and give them one allowance together. An allowance always covers the whole site: youtube.com includes www.youtube.com, m.youtube.com and every other subdomain.

The panel shows the running total for the current site as “12 of 30 min used today” with a meter that changes color as you near the limit.

How Time Is Counted

The counter is built to measure attention, not open tabs.

SituationCounts toward the allowance?
Site in the active tab of the window you are usingYes
No keyboard or mouse input for two minutesNo, counting stops
No input, but the active tab is playing a videoYes
Screen lockedNo
Site open in a background tabNo
Background tab playing audioOnly with Count background audio turned on

Counters reset each local day at midnight.

When the Budget Runs Out

The site opens to a block card instead of its content. The headline names the limit: “You’ve used your 30 minutes on youtube.com today.”

What you can do next depends on your blocking style:

  • Gentle: Continue anyway grants 5, 15 or 30 extra minutes on that tab after a five second confirmation. A short toast confirms the choice. When the extra time ends, the block returns.
  • Strict: No continue button. Go back or open the panel.

Allowances and Breaks

A break pauses every restriction, daily allowances included. If you want breaks to stay honest, set a daily break budget from 0 to 240 minutes. Once the budget is used, no more breaks can start that day.

Allowances and Focus Rules

The two features stack. A site can have a daily allowance and also sit on your block list.

  • During a focus session, the focus rule wins and the site is blocked even if minutes remain.
  • Outside focus, the allowance decides.
  • A path exception reopens a page during focus, but it does not reopen a site whose allowance is used up.

Private by Design

Minutes are counted per site on your device. The counter stores site names and durations, never page content. There is no account and no analytics, and nothing is sent to a server.

To block sites fully during work hours instead, see the website blocker and scheduled blocking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What counts as time on a site?
Time counts while the site is the active tab of the browser window you are using. Counting stops after two minutes without keyboard or mouse input, unless that tab is playing sound, and never runs while your screen is locked. Background tabs playing audio count only if you turn on Count background audio.
When does the allowance reset?
At local midnight. Each day starts at zero minutes used.
Can I set a limit on part of a site?
No. Daily allowances apply to whole sites, subdomains included. Use a focus rule with a path if you want to restrict one section during focus.
What happens when the time runs out?
The site opens to a block card that says you have used your minutes on it today. In gentle mode you can take 5, 15 or 30 extra minutes on that tab after a five second wait. In strict mode the card offers Go back and Open Focus only.
Do daily limits only work during focus sessions?
No. Allowances count every day, whether or not a focus session is running. A break pauses them along with every other restriction.
