Blur Sensitive Info in a Screen Recording — Free

A screen recording picks up secrets you didn’t mean to include. The billing-flow demo has a real customer’s email in the corner. The bug repro scrolls straight past a dashboard with revenue numbers in the sidebar. You spot it on playback, and the options appear to be re-record everything or ship it and hope nobody pauses at 0:34.

Draw a Box, Export a Safe Video

The blur tool sits in the editor’s annotation toolbar. Activate it, drag a rectangle over the area to hide, and the region appears both on the preview and in a list under the timeline. From there:

You can add several regions to one recording — a blur over the account ID in the header and another over the sidebar, each moving independently. The result renders into the exported file; there is no separate overlay track that a viewer could toggle off.

A Blur That Follows What Moves

This is the part still-image tools can’t help you with. In a video, the email address scrolls, the window gets dragged, the notification slides in from the edge. A blur box nailed to one spot protects you for exactly as long as nothing happens.

So each region is keyframed. Press + Key to record the box’s position at the current playhead, scrub to where the target has moved, drag the box after it, and key again. Between keyframes the box interpolates smoothly from one position to the next — no frame-by-frame nudging. Before the first key and after the last, the box holds position instead of vanishing, so the covered area never flashes visible at the edges of the clip.

Why the Edges Matter

Here is a detail most video blur tools get wrong. The obvious implementation draws a blur filter straight over the frame. But a blur kernel fades out toward its border, and where it fades, the original pixels show through — a faint but real ring of unredacted content around every “redacted” box.

SuperchargeCapture’s blur is built differently. It samples real pixels from around the region so the blur has honest material to work with at the borders, and it paints the blurred layer over an opaque base — the region’s average color — so the result is fully solid even where the blur’s own coverage falls off. Nothing legible survives underneath, and nothing peeks through at the rim.

The same applies to strength. The slider can make the blur heavier, but it can’t make it weaker than what actually redacts: the minimum radius scales with the region’s size, roughly half its short edge, so a big box over big text is blurred proportionally hard. You cannot accidentally set a blur that merely smudges.

We won’t promise forensic irreversibility — no honest tool should, and checking your export before sharing is always the right habit. What we can say is that the two common leaks, edge bleed-through and too-weak blur, are closed by construction.

The blur is computed on your machine during export, frame by frame, the same way the editor’s other effects are. Your recording is never uploaded for processing, which matters more than usual here: the whole point is that the video contains something sensitive. It stays in your browser until you choose to export, and what you export is the redacted version.

Does the blur cover the whole video or just part of it?
A blur region is present for the entire clip. Before its first keyframe and after its last one, the box holds its position rather than disappearing, so a secret can't flash visible at the start or end. If something is only on screen for a moment, keyframe the box off to the area where it appears and it simply blurs that spot for the rest of the video too.
Is my video uploaded to be processed?
No. The blur is computed and rendered on your machine during export. The recording never leaves your browser, there's no account, and no telemetry. As of August 2026 the blur tool is part of the free editor, not a paid tier.
