Region Screenshot Chrome Extension — Area and Element Capture

Drag a rectangle over any part of the page, click a single element, or capture exactly what is on screen. Three of SuperchargeCapture's screenshot modes, free.

Updated

When you need to show one specific widget, a single table row, or the exact state of a screen, a full-page capture gives you more than you wanted. The SuperchargeCapture screenshot modes are the other way round: take only the part of the page you actually need, by dragging a rectangle around it or by clicking the element itself.

What Region Screenshot Does

SuperchargeCapture is the free SuperchargeBrowser extension for screen recording and screenshots, and it has no paid tier. Its Screenshot tab offers three of its four capture modes for this exact problem:

  • Visible captures exactly what is currently on screen, without scrolling.
  • Region lets you drag a rectangle on the page and capture just that area.
  • Element lets you click any element on the page and capture just that element.

Every capture lands in the local library, ready to export.

Setup in Three Steps

  1. Install SuperchargeCapture and open its popup.
  2. Switch to the Screenshot tab.
  3. Pick a mode and capture: Visible takes the current viewport, Region has you drag a rectangle over the area you want, and Element has you click the element. The capture appears in your local library, where you export it in the format you want.

There is nothing to configure first. The modes are there the moment the popup opens, and the capture is local, so nothing is sent anywhere in the process.

What It Controls

ModeHow it capturesWhat you get
VisibleCurrent viewportExactly what is on screen, no scrolling
RegionDrag a rectangleOnly the area you drew around
ElementClick an elementJust that element, nothing else

Screenshots export as PNG, JPG, or WebP, with PNG shown first and used as the default. Two of the modes carry suggested keyboard shortcuts: Alt+Shift+S for Visible and Alt+Shift+R for Region. Those are Chrome suggested keys rather than fixed ones, so you can rebind them, and Chrome silently drops a shortcut that collides with another extension. Element mode has no shortcut of its own; you select it from the Screenshot tab.

How It Differs From Full-Page Capture

Full Page is the fourth mode on the same tab: it scrolls the page and stitches every viewport into one tall image, so a long page becomes a single screenshot. That is the tool when you need the whole thing. The three modes on this page are for when you need a part of it. If the page is short, Visible alone is often enough. If you are hunting for one widget, a Region rectangle or an Element click gets you there faster than scrolling and stitching.

One boundary worth stating: these screenshot modes work on the web page in front of you, not on your desktop. SuperchargeCapture’s recording side can capture the whole window or the screen, but a screenshot of a menu bar or a desktop app is not what these modes do.

Permissions, Privacy and Compatibility

SuperchargeCapture asks for activeTab, storage, tabs, tabCapture, offscreen, scripting, unlimitedStorage and the identity permission, which the optional Google Drive share uses to sign into your own account. It also declares an optional host permission for all URLs, and Chrome requests it only if you enable cross-site recording.

None of your screenshots leave your device by default. They are stored in the browser’s local storage on your machine, and the extension sends no usage analytics or telemetry. Capture is blocked on restricted pages: Chrome’s own chrome:// pages, edge:// and about: URLs, and the Chrome Web Store are on a protected list, so a capture attempt there is refused rather than forced.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Region and Element?
Region mode lets you drag a rectangle and captures just that area. Element mode lets you click any element on the page and captures just that element.
Does Visible mode scroll the page?
No. Visible captures exactly what is currently on screen, without scrolling. If you need the whole page, that is what Full Page is for: it scrolls and stitches every viewport into one tall image.
Which formats can a screenshot export as?
PNG, JPG, or WebP, with PNG shown first and used as the default.
Can I change the suggested shortcuts?
Yes. Alt+Shift+S (Visible) and Alt+Shift+R (Region) are Chrome suggested keys, not fixed. You can rebind them, and Chrome silently drops one that collides with another extension.
